GOD OF THE GAPS
YA Fiction

Sixteen-year-old Lilly always believed God has a plan for her, until a traumatic injury to her jaw shakes her faith. She feels abandoned without a clear direction. Her face is not her own, and everyone keeps asking what happened. Then she meets Parker, an intriguing burnout, who suggests we aren’t given a purpose — we must create our own. Lilly hopes Parker will teach her how to call her own shots, but as she falls for their frustrating conversations, Lilly learns that behind Parker’s rebel charm is a serious drug problem.

Instead of making a run for it, Lilly makes it her purpose to rescue Parker. If she succeeds, she will have done something meaningful on her own. There’s just one problem: Parker isn’t budging easily. Caught in the intensity of Parker’s downward spiral and her own healing, Lilly imagines the strength it will take to eat solid foods again, to take a quiet moment to work through a panic attack, and to tell her best friends what really injured her face. As Lilly begins to forge ahead on her own path, it might be just what Parker needs to fight for himself too.
